Briefly: Janet Jackson, Collective Soul, Andrea Bocelli, William Hung, Blue Man Group
The Federal Communications Commission has fined CBS a record $550,000 for airing singer Janet Jackson 's exposed breast during this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
The commission--headed by Michael Powell, son of Secretary of State Colin Powell--voted unanimously to fine 20 CBS-owned television stations $27,500 apiece, the maximum allowable for indecency violations, according to published reports.
Collective Soul has nailed down a Nov. 16 release date for "Youth," the group's sixth studio album and first new set since 2000's "Blender." The Georgia-based rockers will issue the disc on their newly formed label, El Music Group, according to a press release.
Andrea Bocelli 's fourth pop album, simply titled "Andrea," will hit stores on Nov. 9, according to his publicist. The set, which is the follow-up to 2001's platinum "Cieli Di Toscana," was recorded at the Italian vocalist's new home-studio in Tuscany.
"For years I've been learning the recording process," Bocelli said in a statement. "To actually have a studio in my home was a dream come true. It gave me huge freedom and allowed me to experiment, formulate ideas and most importantly record."
"American Idol" reject William Hung , who has risen to fame because of--rather than in spite of--his inability to carry a tune, will release a Christmas EP titled "Hung for the Holidays" on Oct. 19, according to KOCH Records.
"Inspiration," Hung's debut album, has sold over 200,000 copies in the U.S., according to the label.
Blue Man Group will launch a new production at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas on Oct. 9. The show will take place in a new, 1,750-seat theatre custom-built for the three-man act.
