Briefly: Paul McCartney, CMA Awards, Billy Corgan, Asia
The guitar--which will be signed by McCartney--is an exact replica of the one McCartney used to write and perform The Beatles' classic "Yesterday." Bidding for the online auction begins Oct. 6 at charityfolks.com, and runs for a week.
A second guitar will be auctioned at the Oct. 15 Adopt-A-Minefield Gala in Los Angeles. Jay Leno will host the event, which will feature a "special performance" by McCartney and Neil Young, according to a press release.
Adopt-A-Minefield is a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the global landmine crisis.
The CMA Awards ceremony is set for Nov. 15 at New York's Madison Square Garden, marking the first time in the event's 39 year history that it has taken place outside Nashville. The event will be broadcast live on CBS-TV.
Former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan launches a two-week tour backing his new book of poetry, "Blinking with Fists," on Oct. 12.
Corgan's appearances will include readings from the book, signings and question-and-answer sessions with the audience. The itinerary is posted at Corgan's website.
Asia 's Geoff Downes and John Payne are playing free acoustic shows at various Borders Books & Music stores through mid-October to back Asia's new album, "Silent Nation." The itinerary is posted at label Inside Out Music's website.
