Mannheim Steamroller plots 20th anniversary Christmas tour
As has become its annual tradition, Mannheim Steamroller , the orchestra headed by New Age composer Chip Davis, is planning to embark on a Christmas outing on the U.S. arena circuit.
The 20th anniversary holiday tour is scheduled to touch down in more than 10 cities, wrapping up with a post-Christmas performance in Davis' hometown of Omaha, NE. In each city, the tour will feature Davis' band augmented by an approximately 20-piece orchestra.
Arenas the tour visits will be outfitted in a holiday theme, including a 3,000-square-foot Christmas Village that features a working electrical train, gingerbread houses, and live toy soldiers and elves.
The first Mannheim Steamroller holiday album, "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas," was released in 1984, and "A Fresh Aire Christmas," "Christmas in the Aire," "Christmas Extraordinaire," "Christmas Live" and "The Christmas Angel" followed. On Oct. 12, the band--which has sold more than 32 million albums since its 1976 inception, according to a press release--is scheduled to release a new holiday album titled "Christmas Celebration."
Mannheim Steamroller recently issued its second Halloween CD, "Monster Mix"--which includes a mix of music and spooky sounds--as well as the book "Halloween: The World Between."
