Mos Def drops new album, hits the road
Hip-hop artist Mos Def issues his sophomore solo album this week, and follows the set's release with a North American tour.
The run kicks off with an Oct. 18 opening set for singer Jill Scott in Seattle, and subsequent headlining shows are confirmed into mid-November. The itinerary is shown below.
The tour launch follows Tuesday's (10/12) release of "The New Danger," Mos Def's first collection of original solo material since 1999's "Black on Both Sides." Recorded at Longview Studios in North Brookfield, MA, and The Cutting Room in New York City, the album features 17 new songs, including first single "Sex, Love and Money," a sample of which is streaming at Mos Def's website.
Director Paul Hunter is scheduled to shoot a video for "Sex, Love and Money" in New York City later this month, according to Mos Def's publicist.
In addition to the upcoming concert dates, Mos Def's plans include a Monday (10/11) performance on "The Tonight Show," during which he and his Black Jack Johnson Band--Living Colour's Will Calhoun (drums) and Doug Wimbish (bass), Funkadelic's Bernie Worrell (keys) and Bad Brains' Dr. Know (guitar)--will perform the new cut "Blue Black Jack."
On Tuesday (10/12), to coincide with the new album's release, Mos Def and the Black Jack Johnson Band will appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to perform "Sex, Love and Money," "Champion Requiem" and "Umi Says."
