Lauryn Hill Loses Grammy Nomination, Faith Evans Picks One Up

update: After determining that the song was released before the eligibility period, the Recording Academy has disqualified the Lauryn Hill single "Everything Is Everything" from consideration for a Grammy Award in the Best Female R&B Performance category. The nomination instead goes to the Faith Evans track "Love Like This," which the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche determined had the next highest number of nomination votes.

Evans is also nominated in the Best R&B Vocal Performance, Duo/Group category for ''Heartbreak Hotel,'' a duet with Whitney Houston that was a pop/R&B crossover hit. Two years ago, she picked up a Grammy in the Best Rap Duo/Group category for ''I'll Be Missing You,'' a single she performed with Puff Daddy and 112.

Hill won the Grammy's Album of the Year honors last year for her debut album ''The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,'' and also picked up Grammys for Best R&B Album, Best New Artist, and, for ''Doo Wop (That Thing),'' Best R&B Song and Female Vocal.

Albums released between Oct. 1, 1998 and Sept. 30, 1999 were eligible to be nominated for the 42nd annual Grammy awards. Nominations were announced on Jan. 4. Final ballots were mailed to the Academy's 10,000 members on Jan. 12. The ballots will be returned to Deloitte & Touche by Feb. 4, where they will be tabulated and kept secret until the awards show telecast on Feb. 23. The three-hour show will be broadcast live on CBS from Los Angeles' Staples Center.
