Lauryn Hill To Perform Charity Concert For Schoolchildren
During the performance, Altavista execs will pass a $100,000 check to Hill for The Refugee Project, an organization she founded in 1996 to help disadvantaged youth.
''This webcast will carry the inspirational message of the Refugee Project to millions of young people around the world: you must believe in yourself and strive for self-improvement,'' Hill said in a press release issued by Altavista. ''The Internet is a great force to correct imbalances of information that can unfairly divide us.''
Hill is also scheduled to appear at an all-star Bob Marley tribute event that will be taped in Jamaica early next month. The TNT cable network is scheduled to air the Dec. 19 ''One Love Concert,'' which will feature Rita and Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers with Erykah Badu , Busta Rhymes , The Roots, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sarah McLachlan, Seal and others.
Following the TNT telecast, Palm Pictures will release the concert on DVD and on video.
Hill also sings with the taped voice of the late Bob Marley on a forthcoming album that will feature Marley's original music and vocals, rearranged by Stephen Marley to include contemporary artists. ''Bob Marley: Chant Down Babylon'' is scheduled to be released on November 16.
