Cher says more goodbyes with additional tour dates
It seems that parting is such sweet sorrow for Cher , whose farewell tour--which started more than two years ago--now features even more North American stops.
New to the singer's itinerary are November stops in the Detroit area and upstate New York, and her December schedule has grown to include two new Canadian dates, a Georgia stop and a pair of Florida performances. Details are shown below.
Cher's farewell tour opened in June of 2002, and was initially scheduled to visit fewer than 50 North American cities. She has since played about 250 North America shows.
The outing is now expected to end with a series of international dates in 2005, concluding with a March 11 show in Brisbane, Australia.
"My Australian shows will be very emotional because that's where it will end," she said in a statement issued earlier this year. "I think the reason I've kept going, and agreed to more dates, is because it will be really sad to finally say goodbye."
Cher's setlist includes songs culled from throughout her four-decade-long career, and the singer--who has always had a flair for outrageous outfits--makes multiple costume changes during her performances.
Last year, Cher issued "Cher Live: The Farewell Tour," a DVD that features 18 songs recorded during her Nov. 8, 2002 concert in Miami. A simultaneously released audio CD that houses the same 18 tracks has sold more than 2 million copies, according to a press release.
Cher followed the live set with this year's "The Very Best of Cher: The Video Hits Collection," a DVD that surfaced in June. The 60-minute disc houses 15 of the singer's music videos, including "Believe," "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "Love Can Build a Bridge" (with Chrissie Hynde, Neneh Cherry and Eric Clapton).
Cher, whose 60th birthday is less than two years away, first rose to fame in the mid-'60s with partner and then-spouse Sonny Bono.
