Rarities-heavy Nirvana box set due in November
The long-awaited Nirvana box set, which was delayed by legal wrangling between the surviving band members and frontman Kurt Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, finally has a title and a release date.
The set, dubbed "With the Lights Out," hits stores on Nov. 23, according to Universal Records.
Included in the collection will be 3 CDs featuring more than 60 previously unreleased recordings from 1987-1994. Among those recordings are studio outtakes, early recordings of the band and some of Cobain's home demos.
Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth penned the liner notes, which will be included in a 60-page, full-color booklet containing a detailed chronology of the band and rare photos.
A DVD featuring previously unseen material--including early home movies and secret recording sessions in Rio de Janeiro--will round out the collection.
The set will spawn a music video for an as-yet-unknown song, according to Universal, and a half-hour TV special about the set will air on the M2 cable network.
The track list for the box set hasn't been released.
