Briefly: Minutemen, Sarah McLachlan, Bon Jovi, Mac Dre
A rough cut of "We Jam Econo--The Story of the Minutemen ," a feature-length documentary about the fabled Southern California punk-rock band, has been completed.
A trailer for the film--the release date for which hasn't been announced--is posted at its website.
Rocket Fuel Films and filmmaker Tim Irwin had hoped to have the movie finished in time to screen at 2004's summer film festivals. "We had to work some paying gigs over the summer to stay alive and projects like this one had to take a back seat for a minute," says a statement on the site explaining the delay.
Sarah McLachlan will release the CD/DVD set "Afterglow Live" on Nov. 23, according to Arista Records.
The set chronicles the singer/songwriter's summer tour. The DVD features 23 tracks plus the three music videos from McLachlan's 2003 album, "Afterglow", and other features. The CD includes 15 tracks.
New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi will receive the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards, which take place on Nov. 14.
According to a press release, the honor is presented in recognition of "outstanding contributions to the musical entertainment of the American public." Past recipients include Elvis Presley , Michael Jackson, Willie Nelson, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and Garth Brooks, among others.
Bon Jovi will also perform during the awards ceremony, which will be televised live on ABC-TV.
Bay Area-based underground rapper Mac Dre , whose real name was Andre Hicks, was killed in an early-morning shooting Monday (11/1) in Kansas City, MO. He was 34.
According to published reports, the rapper and another man were traveling in a van on Highway 71 when shots were fired at them from another vehicle. The driver escaped, but Mac Dre died of gunshot wounds.
