Briefly: Green Day, R. Kelly, Live Aid, Styx
During their upcoming tour stop in Las Vegas, rockers Green Day plan to perform their latest album, "American Idiot," in its entirety.
The show is set for Dec. 7 at The Joint, located in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Embattled singer R. Kelly --who recently has issued press releases to address the controversial cancellation of his co-headlining tour with Jay-Z, and a hoax news report that claimed he hit on singer Ashanti's sister--has now issued a new press release in response to Monday's (11/15) arrest of a Chicago man who allegedly was trying to extort money from the singer using a videotape that the man said showed Kelly having sex with the wife of a professional athlete. Police reportedly seized the tape and charged the man, identified as Derrick Mosley, with extortion.
"We have heard second-hand reports that the tape allegedly shows consenting adults, including someone identified as R. Kelly, engaged in sexual activity," reads the press release that Kelly issued. "Since we haven't seen the tape, we can neither confirm nor deny that it is in fact Mr. Kelly. We can, however, confirm that no one is suggesting the tape depicts anything but the activities of consenting adults."
In recent years, Kelly has made headlines as much for non-music-related controversies and legal woes as for his multi-platinum recording career. The singer continues to face charges in Illinois on multiple counts of child pornography.
Live Aid--the 1985 benefit concert that featured performances from artists such as U2 , Eric Clapton , Paul McCartney, Queen, David Bowie, The Pretenders, The Who, Elton John, Santana, Madonna, Tom Petty, Sting, Bob Dylan and others--is now available as a 4-disc DVD set. Proceeds benefit the Band Aid Trust, which continues to provide direct relief in famine-affected countries in Africa, according to a press release.
Styx plans to release its version of The Beatles' classic "I Am the Walrus" on Dec. 7 exclusively through Apples iTunes Music Store. The group recorded the song on Sept. 11 in Lincoln City, OR.
