Bruce Springsteen plans benefit for Pennsylvania flood victims
Bruce Springsteen will play a Dec. 2 concert at Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall to raise money for victims of a recent flood, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato announced on Thursday (11/18).
The show, dubbed Flood Aid, is expected to raise between $200,000 and $250,000 for the relief effort, and will also feature local bands including Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers. Proceeds will go to a Salvation Army fund dedicated to local flood relief.
About 2,500 tickets for the show will be sold at $150, $100 and $75, Onorato's office said. Tickets hit the market on Tuesday (11/23) via the Heinz Hall box office and by telephone at (412) 392-4900. Specifics about how the on-sale would be handled--and per-person ticket limits--weren't immediately available.
The remnants of Hurricane Ivan caused extensive flooding in the Pittsburgh region on Sept. 17. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 5.9 inches of rain fell on the heels the 3.6 inches left by Hurricane Frances on Sept. 8, causing an estimated $264 million in flood damage in 54 counties.
In September, Lenny Kravitz played a flood-relief benefit at Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe. It raised about $20,000 for the Salvation Army's flood relief fund, according to a KDKA-TV report.
