Jimmy Eat World plays holiday festivals, books 2005 dates

Jimmy Eat World closes out the year with a series of performances at holiday festivals, and returns to the road early next year for a round of headlining club shows.

The group is scheduled to pop up at a number of holiday-themed radio-station shows through the middle of December, and launches a subsequent club outing in early January. The itinerary is shown below.

The roadwork is part of a touring cycle that got underway following the Oct. 19 release of the band's new album, "Futures," and is expected to last two-and-a-half years, according to a press release.

In between the two legs of touring, Jimmy Eat World will perform on MTV's New Year's Eve program, according to the group's publicist.

"Futures" is the follow-up to Jimmy Eat World's self-titled 2001 breakthrough album, but the band made a conscious effort to distinguish the new set from its predecessor by including more intricate vocal harmonies, more prominent keyboards and strings, and a more guitar solos, according to its record label bio.

"[We] had a reason to do all of this," frontman Jim Adkins said in a statement. "Our last record, we purposely cut all the fat. But this time, we wanted to let the songs breathe a bit, give them more space. I think this album is kind of like a sequel to [the group's 1999 album] 'Clarity' in that way. It's just more ambitious."

"Futures" features the cut "Pain," the music video for which is streaming at Jimmy Eat World's website.
