Rod Stewart takes new standards collection for a spin
Rocker Rod Stewart has settled into a second career singing standards, and will tour next year behind the third volume in his "Great American Songbook" series.
Stewart has booked a month-long North American tour that kicks off in mid-March, and is slated to make stops in 17 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Tickets for most shows are scheduled to hit the box office in December. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
Meanwhile, on Dec. 7, Stewart releases "One Night Only! Rod Stewart Live at Royal Albert Hall," a DVD that captures his performance at the London venue earlier this year. The concert featured guest appearances by Chrissie Hynde and Stewart's former Faces bandmate, Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood.
The 60-piece BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Community Gospel Choir accompanied Stewart and his regular backing musicians at the London performance.
"Stardust: The Great American Songbook, Vol. 3" surfaced in late September and hit the top of The Billboard 200 album chart, making it Stewart's first No. 1 album since 1978's "Blondes Have More Fun."
Stewart spent much of 2004 on the road in support of his double-platinum 2003 covers set, "The Great American Songbook: Volume II." That release followed 2002's "It Had To Be You ... The Great American Songbook."
During his recent tours, Stewart's setlist has included works from his "Great American Songbook" albums, as well as original hits such as "Maggie May," "Tonight's the Night," "You're In My Heart," "Forever Young," "Downtown Train," "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" and "Have I Told You Lately."
