Dick Clark recovering from mild stroke

Producer and television/radio personality Dick Clark , who has been a major force in the music industry since he took over as host of the dance program "American Bandstand" in the mid-'50s, is recuperating after suffering a mild stroke earlier this week.

"The doctors tell me I should be back in the swing of things before too long so I'm hopeful to be able to make it to Times Square to help lead the country in bringing in the New Year once again," Clark said in a statement issued by his publicist.

Clark, 75, has hosted ABC-TV's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" each Dec. 31st for the past 32 years. This year's show will again feature performances by top acts and reports from the streets of New York, according to a press release.

The American Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Golden Globe Awards were all created and produced by Clark's production firm.

Clark disclosed last year that he has diabetes.
