Widespread Panic poised to end hiatus with 2005 roadwork

After 15 months away from the stage, Widespread Panic will kick off a U.S. tour early next year.

The group plans to launch the run with a late-March, three-night stand in Atlanta, and dates are set into early May. The run also includes three-night stands in Chicago and New York City. Details are shown in the itinerary below.

The tour follows the Feb. 22 release of "Widespread Panic Live at Myrtle Beach," a concert album that the group recorded at that city's House of Blues in 2003.

Widespread Panic's most recent studio set is 2003's "Ball." The group maintained a busy tour schedule behind the album after announcing plans to take "2004 off for a much-needed year or so of rest," according to a statement issued at the time.

"Ball" is Widespread Panic's first release since the death of co-founding guitarist Michael Houser, who, in August of 2002, succumbed to pancreatic cancer at the age of 40. Houser played his last concert with the band on July 2, 2002.
