Britney Spears' hiatus proves short-lived

Britney Spears , who less than three months ago announced that she planned to "take some time off to enjoy life," is already getting back to work.

"I think I should rephrase myself from my previous letters when I was talking about taking a 'break,'" Spears said in a letter to fans posted on her website. "What I meant was I am taking a break from being told what to do. True Masters say it's cool when you look at someone and don't know whether they are at work or play since it's all the same to them. The things I've been doing for work lately have been so much fun, because it's not like work to me anymore. I've been even more 'hands on' in my management and the business side of things and I feel more in control than ever."

The letter goes on to reveal that Spears recently shot a video for her track "Do Something," which appears on her 2004 best-of set. She co-directed the video with "young, hungry director Bille Woodruff," she wrote.

"As much fun as I had, I have to say I was a little disappointed that I still had to convince my record label that making this video was the right thing to do at this time. But, in the end, I think everything came out great. We shot the entire video in a record breaking five hours."

Spears said last week during a surprise appearance on Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM that she is beginning work on a new album, which has a working title of "The Original Doll." She said the set should hit stores before this summer.

The singer's new announcements come in the wake of an October letter to fans, in which she said that she was going on an indefinite hiatus.

"I've actually learned to say 'No!'" her October letter said. "With this newly found freedom, it's like people don't know how to act around me. 'Should we talk to her like we did when she was 16 or like the Icon everyone says she is?'

"Going and going and going is all I've ever known since I was 15 years old," she continued. "It's amazing what advisors will push you to do, even if it means taking a naive, young, blonde girl and putting her on the cover of every magazine."
