Joe Satriani reschedules postponed concerts
Joe Satriani , who had to scrap five year-end shows in December after contracting pneumonia, has rescheduled the dates.
Originally set to take place between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1, the make-up dates in San Diego; Phoenix; Las Vegas; Ventura, CA; and Anaheim, CA, are now booked for early April. Details are shown below.
Tickets for the original dates will be honored at the make-up performances, according to organizers.
"Pneumonia is no fun at all and I don't recommend it to anyone, but hearing from all of you has eased my down time quite a bit," Satriani wrote in a message to fans posted at his website. "My recovery will hopefully continue and I will get a clean bill of health by the end of [January]. I was unable to post a 'Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year' message due to my illness, and as you know had to cancel most of the end of the year tour. Sorry about that."
Just prior to being diagnosed with pneumonia, Satriani battled through back-to-back shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Dec. 26-27, despite already being seriously ill.
"The two shows at the Fillmore seem like a fantastic fever induced dream," Satriani recalled of those shows. "Although I could barely breathe, I felt I had to perform as if my life depended on it. Every note was sacred to me."
Before tackling the U.S. make-up shows, Satriani will head to Australia and New Zealand for a series of March dates. Plans are also in the works for some Japanese concerts, as well as performances at some European summer festivals.
Also on the guitarist's schedule is an appearance at this month's annual International Music Products Association's NAMM convention in Anaheim, CA, where he's scheduled to debut a new Ibanez Chrome JS signature-series guitar, and a Peavey JSX Combo Amp. The convention takes place Jan. 20-23; more information is available at the event's website.
Last April, Satriani released his ninth studio album, "Is There Love in Space?" The entire album is streaming via a listening-party page at Satriani's website. The site also features footage of Satriani and his backing band--Matt Bissonette (bass) and Jeff Campitelli (drums)--rehearsing for the tour.
