Briefly: U2, Incubus, A Perfect Circle, iPod
"Vertigo," the lead-off single from U2 's latest album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," was the top-selling digital download in the U.K. during 2004.
In other U2 news, the group has posted at its website a clip of the forthcoming music video for follow-up single "All Because of You." The video features footage shot during U2's roving concerts in New York City the day before the new album hit stores.
Incubus is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund via the band's Make Yourself Foundation. Launched last year, the foundation was established to donate funds to various charities, a list of which appears at the foundation's website.
A Perfect Circle has unveiled a new, interactive version of its video for "Imagine," a cover of the John Lennon original that the group recorded for its 2004 album, "eMOTIVe." The clip, which is streaming at Virgin Records' website, "assembles stock and news footage into a powerfully confrontational statement on the current social and political climate," according to a press release, and the new interactive version features clickable "hot spots" that link to websites where viewers can find more information on the imagery and lyrics of the video and song.
Earlier this week, Apple unveiled a new version of its iPod digital-music player. Dubbed the iPod Shuffle, the device--which comes in two versions: 512 MB for $99 and 1GB for $149--is "smaller and lighter than a pack of gum," according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Apple has sold more than 10 million iPods since introducing the first generation of the product in 2001; 4.5 million of those sales took place during the final three months of 2004, according to the company.
