'Tsunami Aid' telethon to feature Madonna, Stevie Wonder, more
Madonna , Stevie Wonder , Eric Clapton , Sheryl Crow , Kenny Chesney , Nelly and Sarah McLachlan are among a long list of musicians who will perform during "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," a telethon set to air Saturday (1/15) at 8 p.m. ET on several stations.
The two-hour concert, originating from the Los Angeles-area's Universal Studios and New York's Rockefeller Center, will support the American Red Cross relief efforts for survivors of the recent tsunamis. During the program, viewers will be asked to visit http://www.redcross.org or call 1-800-HELP-NOW to contribute to the Red Cross International Response Fund.
Diana Ross, Maroon 5, Norah Jones, Mary J. Blige, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, Gloria Estefan, Elton John and others are also scheduled to perform, according to NBC Universal. The program, which will be tape-delayed on the West Coast, will be presented commercial free on the NBC, USA, Bravo, Trio, SCI FI, PAX, Telemundo, MSNBC and CNBC networks, and will also air on Clear Channel radio stations, as well as the XM and Sirius satellite radio networks.
In addition to the musical performances, appearances are planned by Halle Berry, Kevin Spacey, Usher, George Clooney, Uma Thurman, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Bruce Willis, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Tim Robbins, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, Jay Leno, Drew Barrymore and former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.
According to the Red Cross, money raised during the telethon will be earmarked on five areas: food and safe water; healthcare and disease prevention; immediate family supplies; mental health counseling; and disaster preparedness and prevention measures.
