Briefly: Duran Duran, Nine Inch Nails, Vanessa Williams, Dave Matthews Band
"Taylor had broken the fifth Metatarsal bone in his right ‘bass drum’ foot late last year, when he was in the United States and had been ordered to rest for several weeks," said a statement posted on the band's website. "Following doctor’s orders, the drummer’s first show after the accident was on Thursday evening (1/13) at London’s Hammersmith Palais (this was an intimate show that was being taped for broadcast on UK radio later this month). The following day, Taylor’s foot was severely swollen and painful and after a medical examination today, Roger was told that unless he rested the foot for an additional period of time he could risk serious long-term damage."
The band was scheduled to launch its world tour Jan. 22 in Tokyo; Taylor is expected to be able to resume playing in time for the group's U.S. tour, which is scheduled to open in mid-February, according to the statement.
With his new album, "With Teeth," now in the can, Nine Inch Nails ' Trent Reznor is starting to put together a tour. So far, just two dates--March 30-31 at London's Astoria--have been announced. The initial round of North American dates will be announced "in the near future," according to the band's website.
Vanessa Williams will perform a Feb. 11 concert at New York's Carnegie Hall to raise money for AmeriCares, with funds dedicated to the survivors of the recent tsunami.
Stefan Wohl, 42, a Dave Matthews Band tour-bus driver, reportedly has been charged with reckless conduct and discharge of contaminants to cause water pollution for allegedly dumping up to 800 pounds of raw sewage into the Chicago River as it crossed a bridge, showering people in a tour boat below with the waste. The incident prompted a previous civil suit.
