Interpol expands winter tour schedule
With the addition of several new dates, critically lauded New York college-rockers Interpol are now booked to make stops in 16 U.S. cities during a late-winter club tour.
The outing--the itinerary for which is below--supports the group's sophomore set, "Antics," which hit stores last September. A tour of Europe will follow; details about the European tour are posted on the band's website.
Experimental rockers Blonde Redhead , who continue to back 2004's "Misery is a Butterfly," will open on the U.S. dates.
Interpol recorded "Antics"--which surfaced in September--last winter with producer Peter Katis at his Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT. The "Antics" sessions took place after the band spent two years on the road behind its 2002 debut, the Katis-produced "Turn on the Bright Lights."
Formed in 1998, Interpol's current lineup has been in place since 2000. The group scored a big break when its sound--which owes much to post-punkers Joy Division--caught the ear of the late BBC Radio host John Peel, who featured the group on his program in 2001. As a result of that early exposure, the band remains a popular draw throughout much of Europe.
