Camper Van Beethoven tour continues despite stolen gear

For the second time since October, thieves have made off with all of alt-rock band Camper Van Beethoven 's musical gear. But as it did following last year's incident, the tour will go on.

According to a statement posted on its website, the band discovered that the gear was stolen Jan. 18 in Dallas.

"The band was staying at the Comfort Suites--and they even had a security guard," the statement said. "The trailer was backed up against a parking deck wall so the doors would not open. The thieves cut through the side of the trailer and helped themselves."

The band is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of the gear or information that leads to the return of the gear; information is available on the website.

Meanwhile, the group is continuing its winter tour using "new, begged and borrowed gear," according to the site. "[Frontman/guitarist] David Lowery is sponsored by the great folks at Ibanez.. Let's see if they have any guitars left."

Last October, all of the bands instruments were stolen during a tour stop in Montreal. The gear was never recovered.

The band's remaining January dates will feature opening act The Hackensaw Boys.

In February, several of the tour's stops are billed as acoustic Cracker /Camper Van Beethoven gigs, featuring only Lowery--who also sings for the rock band Cracker--and Cracker guitarist Johnny Hickman. Details are in the itinerary below. Camper Van Beethoven multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Segel is also scheduled to appear during an acoustic show in San Diego.

Last year, Camper Van Beethoven released "New Roman Times," its first album of new material since 1989's "Key Lime Pie."
