Maroon 5 heads up 2005 Honda Civic Tour

Maroon 5 tops the roster of the 5th annual Honda Civic Tour, which will also feature rotating support from The Donnas, The Thrills and Phantom Planet.

The two-month run kicks off in mid-March, and stops are set in more than 35 cities. Phantom Planet will open the tour's kick-off shows in the Los Angeles area March 11 and 13, after which The Donnas take over the opening slot through April 14; The Thrills then claim the opening slot through the tour's May 11 finale.

Also on tap for Maroon 5 is a March 15 performance at the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo in Austin, and a March 16 set at the annual RodeoHouston festival, neither of which is part of the Honda Civic outing. Details are shown in the itinerary below.

Tickets for the Civic Tour hit the box office Feb. 5, though fans who visit the tour's official website can gain access to a ticket pre-sale that begins on Friday (1/28), according to organizers.

Maroon 5 cited its commitment to protecting the environment as part of its reason for signing on for the tour.

"We are so excited to be involved with this year's Honda Civic Tour," Maroon 5 singer/guitarist Adam Levine said in a statement. "Honda has been such a trendsetter in producing environmentally friendly cars that we jumped at the chance to be involved with them on this tour."

In conjunction with the tour announcement, Levine and his bandmates have launched "a special webpage to share important information about the planet with links to environmental organizations that can help make a difference," according to a press release.

Maroon 5 helped customize a Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Civic Coupe, both of which will be showcased at each venue on the tour. Fans will have an opportunity to win the customized rides, according to organizers.

The Civic Tour will be Maroon 5's only tour this year, according to a press release. The group continues to support its 2002 debut, "Songs About Jane," which spawned the breakthrough hit "This Love."

The Donnas are backing their late-2004 set, "Gold Medal," while The Thrills are working the road behind last year's "Let's Bottle Bohemia." Phantom Planet delivered its self-titled third album last January.
