Mariah Carey Returns To The Road After 8-Year Absence

Hitting the road for the first time in eight years, pop diva Mariah Carey will tour nine North American arenas from March 16 to April 11 as part of her world-wide "Rainbow Tour--One Night Only."

The North American leg of the tour begins with a March 16 date at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, then moves to Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and Toronto. She wraps up with an April 11 date at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Carey's show will feature her past hits, from "Vision of Love" to "Thank God I Found You," the latter from her triple-platinum "Heartbreaker" album. The album's title track is her fourteenth single on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. She is still chasing records set by the Beatles, who had 20 number one singles, and Elvis Presley, who had 17.

On Tuesday (1/17), Carey received an Award of Achievement, a career award, from the American Music Awards, in which 20,000 people voted on nominees selected from airplay and record sales information.

Although Carey's duet with Whitney Houston, "When You Believe,'' received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals, she is all but a shadow in this year's awards. Her "Rainbow" album was released Nov. 2, 1999, too late for the Sept. 30 cutoff for the Grammys.
