Britney Spears sues tour insurers for nearly $10 million

Britney Spears has filed suit against eight insurance companies, alleging that they refused to pay her $8 million claim after she injured her knee during a 2004 video shoot.

Spears, who in court papers says that she paid $1.3 million in premiums for the insurance, canceled a planned tour after suffering the injury. She is seeking at least $9.8 million in damages.

The pop star's suit says that the insurance was in effect when she hurt the knee on June 8. It alleges that seven of the insurance companies, all based in the U.K., claimed that she failed to disclose an earlier knee injury, making her policies invalid. The eighth company, based in France, allegedly did not respond to her claim.

According to the claim, Spears underwent a minor surgery on her left knee in 1999, and that the omission shouldn't have invalidated the insurance policies. The suit also alleges that Spears' new injury wasn't related to the first.
