Matthew Sweet To Release Seventh Album

Matthew Sweet will back the release of his forthcoming album "In Reverse" (Volcano) with a month-long club tour that's scheduled to open Oct. 24 in Santa Fe, N.M.

''In Reverse'' is scheduled to hit stores on Oct. 12, but the entire album will be available for streaming via his official website on Friday (Oct. 8), according to Sweet's publicist.

After releasing little-noticed major label albums in 1986 and 1989, Sweet broke through with his third release, ''Girlfriend'' (Zoo), which remains his best-selling effort. ''In Reverse'' is Sweet's seventh full-length album. Sweet produced it with Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Fred Maher (who worked with Sweet on ''Girlfriend''), and Greg Leisz (Dave Alvin).

Sweet's previous label, Zoo Entertainment, was shuttered after the release of his last album, 1997's ''Blue Sky On Mars.'' He has since joined the Volcano Records imprint, which is owned by Q-Prime Management and Jive Records.
