Chris Botti books dates to follow run with Josh Groban
Trumpeter Chris Botti gets top billing on a series of shows that follow his in-progress stint opening for singer Josh Groban.
Botti's post-Groban run kicks off in late March, and dates stretch into May. His itinerary also includes a couple of mid-March shows on off days from Groban's tour. Details are shown below.
Botti is backing last September's "When I Fall in Love," a collection of standards and contemporary pop songs that Sony Music head Don Ienner suggested Botti record.
"We agreed a recording of romantic music allowing an escape from life's everyday anxieties would be a timely remedy for listeners and truly extraordinary at this point in time," Botti wrote in the album's liner notes. "I have often been seduced by the melody of a beautiful song. That these melodies often play to our notion of what romance is, or how it feels, is something that captivates and inspires me when I play."
"When I Fall In Love" includes Botti's interpretations of Sting's "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" (on which Sting makes a guest appearance), Sade's "No Ordinary Love" and Andrea Bocelli's classically inspired hit "Time to Say Goodbye (Con te Partiro)," which Botti describes as the album's "centerpiece track."
"It's a part of music which most fans of mine have never seen me dive into," he said in a statement. "It's this kind of almost regal classical approach to playing trumpet and it's probably the song on the album that I am the most proud of as a performer."
