More details surface for Sammy Hagar's 'Cinco de Cabo' tour
After returning last year to his role at the helm of Van Halen, rocker Sammy Hagar will pull double duty by fronting his two non-VH outfits during his upcoming tour.
Hagar is hitting the road in late April for a run dubbed the "Cinco de Cabo" tour, which he'll headline with his band The Wabos; the group features Hagar's longtime friend and solo-band drummer David Lauser, as well as guitarist Vic Johnson and bassist Mona, both of whom Hagar recruited following his 1996 split with Van Halen.
Hagar and Lauser will also perform on the upcoming run under the moniker of Los Tres Gusanos, a trio rounded out by Hagar's friend and Van Halen bandmate, bassist Michael Anthony. The multi-date U.S. run is a first for the group, which normally performs only at Hagar's Cabo Wabo nightclub in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The Mexican nightspot has spawned a spin-off located at Harrah's Casino in Lake Tahoe, NV, where Hagar and company will launch the upcoming tour April 29 with a three-night stand.
Tickets for all of the upcoming shows are scheduled to hit the box office Friday and Saturday (2/18, 19). Details are shown in the itinerary below.
Last year, Hagar reunited with Anthony, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen for his first tour with Van Halen since the group's run behind 1995's "Balance." The 2004 outing supported a hits compilation dubbed "Best of Both Worlds," which also features three new cuts.
As the tour neared its conclusion last November, Alex Van Halen told a Kansas newspaper that the group planned to take a break following the roadtrip, and would then head into the studio to record a new album with Hagar on vocals.
A late-December message that Anthony posted on his own website indicated that the state of Van Halen was in question.
"I'm not sure what the future holds for Van Halen, but I can tell you Sammy and I will be out there rocking together with the Wabos in 2005," Anthony wrote.
