Metallica Plans Summer Tour With Korn, Kid Rock
Adding to an already metal-heavy summer tour circuit including the Ozzfest and Tattoo the Earth treks, Metallica has announced plans to hit the road with Korn , Kid Rock , Powerman 5000 and System of a Down.
The tour, which will play stadiums, speedways and arenas, gets underway on June 30 at Foxboro Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The tour is currently set to conclude on July 20 at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, N.J., but it is expected that more dates will be announced soon.
Accompanied by Kid Rock and Sevendust, Metallica closed 1999 and rang in 2000 with an 8-city outing that grossed more than $10 million, according to Amusement Business.
Korn will be coming off the European leg of its ''Sick and Twisted'' tour in support of their latest LP, ''Issues." Powerman 5000 will also be returning from Europe after its opening slot with Pantera ends in Paris on May 18.
In a posting on his official website, Kid Rock explained what he is doing with his downtime before the summer tour. ''Due to a long year and a half of touring, I will be off the road for a while collecting my thoughts. Actually, my thoughts will be put toward my new release and my DJ, Uncle Kracker's new debut. Look for both releases early spring/summer.''
System of a Down will be enjoying a little time off the road as well, its only scheduled gig over the next couple of months being a May 20 date at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
