Son Volt (St. Louis, MO)

Following Uncle Tupelo's demise, singer/guitarist Jay Farrar formed alt-country act Son Volt , which released three albums between 1995 and 1998. The band hibernated as Farrar went solo, but re-formed last year to record a track for an Alejandro Escovedo benefit album. When Farrar and the old group couldn't reach a business agreement, he dissolved Son Volt and remade it with hired guns Brad Rice (guitar), Andrew Duplantis (bass), Eric Heywood (pedal steel) and Dave Bryson (drums). A new, as-yet-untitled album is in the can, and Farrar is in search of a label. --Rob Evans
