Metallica To Perform With New York Orchestra At Madison Square Garden
Metallica will celebrate the unleashing of their live symphonic album "S&M" by performing with a 78-piece orchestra at New York's Madison Square Garden on Nov. 23, the same day the album is scheduled to hit stores.
According to a press release from Elektra Records, it will likely be the last time the band will be joined by a full orchestra for a show in the United States. For performances of songs like ''Master Of Puppets'' and ''Enter Sandman,'' New York City's Orchestra of St. Luke's will augment Metallica's heavy metal crunch.
Ticket information will be announced at a later date, according to Elektra.
''S&M'' features 20 songs recorded April 21 and 22 with the San Francisco Symphony. Michael Kamen, who helmed those April shows, will serve as conductor/arranger for the New York City show as well. Metallica first worked with Kamen on ''Nothing Else Matters'' from Metallica's self-titled 1991 album.
A companion video and DVD documenting the San Francisco Symphony shows are also set for release on Nov. 23.
Also planned is a Nov. 19 performance with the Berlin Symphony at the Berlin Velodrome in Germany.
Metallica is scheduled to play a New Year's Eve show with Ted Nugent at the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit.
