Weezer to launch new album with club tour
Geek-rockers Weezer will get fans ready for their fifth album during a run on the North American club circuit, dates for most of which are set prior to the album's release.
The band launches the run in Canada at the end of April, and shows so far stretch into mid-May. Included in the itinerary is an April 30 set at the annual Coachella festival in Indio, CA. Details are shown below.
On May 10, the same day that the tour touches down in Philadelphia, Weezer issues "Make Believe," its first new studio collection since 2002's "Maladroit."
The day after the album surfaces, the group kicks off a two-night stand at New York City's Roseland Ballroom.
"Make Believe" features the cut "Beverly Hills," which hit radio stations earlier this week. The song's music video is scheduled to premiere March 29 on MTV2. The clip features the band performing at the Playboy mansion in Beverly Hills, CA, and also includes footage of fans whom the brand brought to the shoot without telling them where they were going.
"The idea of juxtaposing real Weezer fans with such an unlikely fantasy environment came from 'Beverly Hills' basically being about the sense of alienation that many people get when they don't feel like they belong," reads a message posted at the band's website. "The song speculates about living the life of movers and shakers, but concludes that there's no way to cross over from the 'real world' to the 'fantasy world' (even if one who is 'normal' has indeed become 'famous'). But for a few minutes the idea is tossed about, taken to the level of longing for a life of extreme celebrity."
A streaming-audio version of "Beverly Hills" is posted at Weezer's website.
