Briefly: Dinosaur Jr., Dwight Yoakam, Paul Hester, Paula Abdul
The original Dinosaur Jr. lineup--frontman/guitarist J. Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph--is set to reunite for an April 15 performance on CBS-TV's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson."
The band is also scheduled to perform this summer at the U.K.'s Download Festival and Japan's Fuji Rock Fest.
Dinosaur Jr.'s original lineup split in 1989, though Mascis continued to record under the Dinosaur Jr. name for several more years. Merge Records reissued the first three Dinosaur Jr. albums--"Dinosaur," "You're Living All Over Me" and "Bug"--last week.
Dwight Yoakam will issue a new album dubbed "Blame the Vain" on June 14, his first release for New West Records. He'll back the set with a tour that launches in July, according to a press release.
Crowded House drummer Paul Hester, who had long battled depression, apparently hung himself in a park near his Melbourne, Australia, home over the weekend, according to Australian press reports. He was 46.
Paula Abdul reportedly paid a $900 fine and was placed on probation last week after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge.
