Collective Soul readies acoustic EP, makes more tour plans

UPDATED 3/31-- Collective Soul , which last fall released its first new album since 2000, will deliver up an acoustic EP in late April, and will continue working the road behind the recordings.

Titled "From the Ground Up," the acoustic set is due out April 26 on the band's newly formed El Music Group label, according to a press release.

Two days before the EP hits stores, Collective Soul wraps up a round of U.S. shows that kicks off April 2 in Tempe, AZ, and ends with a two-night stand in Georgia during which the band will perform with the Atlanta Youth Symphony. The group plans to record the Georgia shows for use in an upcoming live set titled "Collective Soul 'Home' with the Atlanta Youth Symphony," a portion of proceeds from which will benefit the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, according to a press release.

"The initial idea developed as a unique opportunity between us and the Atlanta Symphony," frontman Ed Roland said in a statement. "During discussions about the project, we learned that Atlanta houses one of the top 3 youth symphonies in the country and with our new record appropriately titled 'Youth,' the idea transitioned naturally."

Due to surface in the fall, the live set will be available in a two-disc, audio-only version, a DVD-video version and a box set featuring both formats. A specific release date has not been announced.

The band's tour plans also include an extensive run through Canada during May, and a headlining slot on the subsequent "Road to Vegas" tour, an outing that celebrates the city's 100th birthday. Set to run May 27-June 29, the tour will "hit the top 10 Las Vegas feeder market cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Fort Lauderdale, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago and Atlanta," according to a press release. More information is available at the tour's website.

Three mid-July festival appearances in Wisconsin are also planned. The group's itinerary is included below.

Released in November, "Youth" is Collective Soul's first new studio set since 2000's "Blender." The new album features the cuts "Better Now," "Counting the Days," "How Do You Love" and "Under Heaven's Skies," all of which are streaming at the band's website.

Collective Soul's previous albums have spawned the hits "December," "Shine," "The World I Know," "Gel," "Blame" and "Precious Declaration."
