Dinosaur Jr. returns from extinction for U.S. tour

After announcing last month plans for a televised reunion performance and sets at festivals in the U.K. and Japan, the original Dinosaur Jr. lineup has now unveiled a full-blown U.S. tour.

The group has so far booked a stretch of July club and theater dates that focus primarily on the Northeast and Midwest. The itinerary--which is shown below--also includes a performance in New York City's Central Park and a July 24 slot at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.

Tickets for the club and theater dates are scheduled to go on sale April 26 via the band's website, according to a press release; on-sale info for the Central Park and Lollapalooza shows was still pending at press time.

Additional tour dates will be announced, according to organizers.

Meanwhile, the trio--frontman/guitarist J. Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph--will first turn up during an April 15 performance on CBS-TV's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson." The next day, Mascis' solo outfit--dubbed J. Mascis + The Fog--are booked to perform a club show at the Spaceland club in Los Angeles; the show will also feature "VERY special guests," according to a press release.

In addition to its U.S. tour plans, Dinosaur Jr. is also scheduled to perform a handful of early June dates in the U.K.--including Donnington's Download Festival---and several late-July sets at Japan's Fuji Rock Fest. More information is available at the group's website.

Dinosaur Jr.'s original lineup split in 1989, though Mascis continued to record under the Dinosaur Jr. name for several more years. Merge Records reissued the first three Dinosaur Jr. albums--"Dinosaur," "You're Living All Over Me" and "Bug"--in March.
