Cyndi Lauper stays busy with spring and summer shows
Cyndi Lauper , who last year delivered a new live DVD, is slated to play a handful of concerts in the coming months.
The singer's schedule currently includes May performances in Philadelphia and New York City, followed by June dates in New York, New Jersey and Ontario, as well as August stops in Oregon and Idaho. Details are shown below.
Lauper's June 23 performance in New York City is part of New York's Gay Pride Week festivities; last year, the singer--whose sister Elen is openly gay--signed on to participate in a publicity campaign organized by Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). More information about the campaign--including a transcript of an interview with the Lauper sisters--is posted at PFLAG's Stay Close website.
"At Last," Lauper's most recent album, surfaced in November of 2003. The set features her renditions of classic hits including The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody," Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "Walk on By," Smokey Robinson's "You Really Got a Hold On Me," and the title track, originally recorded by Etta James.
Special guests include Tony Bennett on "Makin' Whoopie," and Stevie Wonder, who plays harmonica on "Until You Come Back to Me," a track he once recorded."At Last," and the release of a new concert DVD.
Last May, Lauper issued "Live at Town Hall," a DVD that captures her March 11, 2004 performance in New York City. A full tracklist for the set is posted at her website.
