John Hiatt readies new album, plots summer tour

John Hiatt will back his forthcoming album with a lengthy string of summer concerts.

Titled "Master of Disaster," Hiatt's new set is due out June 21. Two days later, the singer/songwriter launches a supporting tour, dates for which stretch into early August. The itinerary is shown below.

North Mississippi Allstars--members of which backed Hiatt in the studio during the "Master of Disaster" recording sessions--will serve as his band on the upcoming run, and will "in many cases" pull double duty as the opening act, according to organizers.

Hiatt recorded "Master of Disaster" at Ardent Studios in Memphis with producer Jim Dickinson (Ry Cooder, Big Star, The Replacements). Sessions were recorded using a Sonoma-24 Direct Stream Digital Recording and Editing System.

"This Sonoma System is not like sound reproduction," Hiatt said in a statement. "It's like being in the room with first generation audio."

The new disc will feature two layers: one will contain a stereo mix for standard CD players, and the other will feature a high-resolution Super Audio CD version and 5.1 surround-sound mix for use with SACD-compatible players, according to a press release.

Backing Hiatt on "Master of Disaster"--which follows 2003's "Beneath this Gruff Exterior"--are drummer Cody Dickinson and guitarist Luther Dickinson (both from North Mississippi Allstars), as well as bassist David Hood (Muscle Shoals).
