John Mellencamp, John Fogerty to tour the amphitheater circuit
John Mellencamp and John Fogerty will pair up for more than a month of U.S. amphitheater dates this summer, launching the run June 24 in Cincinnati.
Organizers have unveiled the tour's first 20 dates, and more shows are expected, according to a press release. Tickets will first go on sale Wednesday (3/27) via a pre-sale on VH1.com (VH1 and VH1 Classic are sponsoring the tour). Paid members of Mellencamp's Club Cherry Bomb fan club will have access to a pre-sale offering premium tickets to the tour; details can be found on Mellencamp's website. Public on-sales begin to roll out on Saturday (4/30).
Mellencamp recently completed his first tour in three years, and said in a statement that he's looking forward to the outing with the former Creedence Clearwater Revival leader.
"It's a very fulfilling situation for me to be able to go out and tour with one of my musical heroes," Mellencamp said. "The response to the initial dates has been very gratifying and now we're really looking forward to going out this summer with John and keeping these songs alive."
Indiana native Mellencamp is touring behind his recent, platinum-certified best-of set, "Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits." Among the tracks that appear on the two-disc collection are "Jack & Diane," "Small Town," "Pink Houses" and "Authority Song"--all songs that he's been performing at recent concerts. He's also been playing "Walk Tall," one of two new original tracks on "Words & Music."
Fogerty, meanwhile, will perform a set that mixes his solo hits--such as "Old Man Down the Road" and "Centerfield"--with many CCR hits, including "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising" and "Fortunate Sun." His setlist will also include songs from his 2004 solo album, "Deja Vu All Over Again," according to a press release.
"I've long admired John's music since the days of 'little pink houses,'" Fogerty said in a statement. "He always brings great intensity and energy to his live performance and I'm looking forward to some rockin' shows this summer."
