Coldplay [ tickets ], which is gearing up for the June release of its new album, has lined up an imminent handful of shows at clubs and theaters, and has revealed the first batch of dates for a late-summer amphitheater run.

The group will perform at The Joint in Las Vegas on Friday (4/29), then hit the stage at Saturday's (4/30) Coachella Festival in Indio, CA, before tackling shows at small venues in San Francisco, Chicago and Toronto. A May 14 performance at radio-station festival in Baltimore is also planned.

Meanwhile, organizers have confirmed five dates for the band's late-summer run on the U.S. amphitheater circuit; the itinerary so far comprises four August stops and one late-September show. Details are shown below.

The tour's North American leg is expected to kick off in late July and touch down in 40 cities.

Before launching the late-summer trek in the U.S., Coldplay mounts a European tour that opens in June. More information is posted at the band's website.

The roadwork supports Coldplay's third album, "X&Y," which hits stores June 7. The set, which follows 2002's multi-platinum "A Rush of Blood to the Head," features the new cut "Speed of Sound." The track is currently the top-selling song at Apple's iTunes Music Store.

The group recorded and co-produced the new album in the U.K. over the past year with help from co-producers Danton Supple (Morrissey, Elbow) and Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Kings of Convenience).
