Wallflowers book more shows as album release nears
The Wallflowers , who are working the road in advance of the late-May release of their new album, are laying the groundwork for a summer tour behind the set.
The summer outing is currently slated to launch in mid-June, and dates stretch into August. Meanwhile, the band's pre-release trek continues with a Friday (4/29) performance at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, and a free show at Boston's EarthFest on Saturday (4/30).
A handful of May shows that bookend the May 24 release of "Rebel, Sweetheart"--The Wallflowers ' follow-up to 2002's "Red Letter Day"--are also planned. Details are shown below.
Included among the May dates is a May 7 performance on NBC's "Today, Weekend Edition"; fans can catch the 7 a.m. show for free at New York City's Rockefeller Plaza.
In related news, The Wallflowers have announced plans to include on the Dual Disc version of "Rebel, Sweetheart" a behind-the-scenes documentary titled "ReArrange." The film captures the group "on a marathon recording session during which the band dramatically rearranged and recorded new versions of their hits, 'One Headlight' and '6th Avenue Heartache,' as well as the fan favorites 'Some Flowers Bloom Dead,' 'For the Life of Me' and the previously unreleased 'Halo' (which had only been played live several times and had piqued fan interest through bootlegs)," according to a press release.
"We didn't want to just stick on some old videos or make use of some scratchy footage that's been lying in a garage somewhere," frontman Jakob Dylan said in a statement." "We rearrange songs for nearly every live show we play, so we thought it might be interesting to take that approach into the studio, film everything and see what comes of it.
"Rebel, Sweetheart" features the cut "The Beautiful Side of Somewhere," which is streaming at The Wallflowers' website.
