Montgomery Gentry postpones shows due to injury

Country duo Montgomery Gentry , which soon will launch a lengthy summer tour, has postponed a couple of spring dates so co-founder Eddie Montgomery can recover from wrist surgery.

The shows, originally set for May 12 in Columbus, GA, and May 13 in Greenville, SC, have been moved to Oct. 6 and 7, respectively, according to the group's publicist.

On Monday (5/2), Montgomery underwent surgery on his left wrist to repair extensive damage that occurred when he fell from the stage during an April 29 performance in Asheville, NC. He broke four bones in the fall, which his publicist said occurred after he stepped on an improperly secured speaker cabinet next to the stage. The singer finished the 90-minute show before heading to a local emergency room.

The surgical procedure--which "involved an open reduction internal fixation of the left distal radius and ulna--or, in other words, they had to insert titanium plates and rods," according to a press release--took place at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, KY.

"I want to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph East--they are unbelievable," Montgomery said in a statement. "If you saw the before and after pictures of my wrist you would know just how incredible they are."

Doctors have advised Montgomery not to perform for "the next few weeks."

Montgomery and partner Troy Lee Gentry are due to resume touring in early June, and their itinerary stretches into late October. Details are shown below.

The duo, which will spend much of the summer on tour with Brooks & Dunn , continues to back its latest album, last year's "You Do Your Thing."
