Powerman 5000 plots summer shows, works on new album

Rock outfit Powerman 5000 hits the road this summer as work on a new studio set continues.

Currently on the schedule are a handful of May shows in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii, a pair of June dates in the Midwest and 10 June dates throughout the Northeast. Details are shown below.

"Instead of doing long, drawn out runs, we will be doing shorter regional blasts," the group said in a message posted at its website.

During the upcoming tour, PM5K's ever-changing lineup will feature mainstay frontman Spider One, longtime members Adrian Ost (drums) and Siggy Siursen (bass), and new guitarists Terry Corso (ex-Alien Ant Farm) and Johnny Rock (ex-Half-Cocked).

Founding guitarist Adam 12--who, aside from Spider One, was the group's only remaining original member--has left the group, but will appear on a forthcoming album that the band recently recorded in Boston.

Spider One, in a recent email to fans, said he is mixing the album on the West Coast with producer Mudrock, who was the group's live soundman during its early years, and who engineered and co-produced the band's major-label debut, 1997's "Mega Kung Fu Radio."

No release date for the new album has been announced.

Last October, Powerman 5000 issued "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Vol. 1," a collection of b-sides and rarities that includes a cover of Bjork's "Army of Me," a former staple of the band's live setlist. The album's 20 tracks were recorded between 1991 and 1996, and feature the Boston quintet's original lineup of Spider One, Adam 12, percussionist Jordan, bassist Dorian Heartsong and drummer Alan Pahanish.
