Eels to slither through North America in June

Eels --a project anchored by singer/songwriter Mark "E" Oliver Everett--hit the North American club and theater circuit in June to back the recently released "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations."

The run launches on the West Coast in mid-June, and is due to wrap up in New York City at the end of the month. Details are shown below.

Billed as "Eels with Strings," the show apparently will not be a rock concert, according to a tour announcement from Everett.

"The past few Eels tours had taken a physical and emotional toll on me," Everett said during a late-March press conference. "I decided it was time to stop. But then one night I was in the backyard smoking a cigar with [my dog] Bobby, Jr., and I was thinking about how we've been pummeling the audiences with variations on a distorted, rocking theme for the past few tours and wouldn't it be nice to do something really different?

"I found myself getting creatively excited about the idea. I couldn't stop myself from calling the office and having my team of experts assist me in making this idea a reality. So here we come again. If you're looking for rock--turn back. You've come to the wrong place. This is a whole other thing."

During a recent Los Angeles-area warm-up gig for the tour, Everett hit the stage with a female string quartet and two male multi-instrumentalists, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Released in late April, "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations" is Eels' sixth studio set, and the follow-up to 2003's "Shootenany." The new album--a two-disc collection--features the cuts "Railroad Man (The Tonight Show)" and "Hey Man (Now You're Really Living)," the music videos for which are streaming at Vagrant Records' website.
