Gorillaz to take online tour to radio station sites
Animated British alt-rockers Gorillaz have lined up a unique virtual tour to promote their new album, "Demon Days," which hit stores last week and debuted at No. 6 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
The group--spearheaded by "Tank Girl" comic creator Jamie Hewlett (a.k.a. Murdoc) and Blur frontman Damon Albarn (a.k.a. 2D)--plans to stream a series of performances from the websites of dozens of U.S. radio stations, beginning Monday (6/6) on Seattle modern rocker KNDD's site.
Gorillaz's schedule, which is below, includes appearances at nearly 40 U.S. radio stations, plus Sirius Satellite Radio's Alt Nation channel and radio personality Mancow's syndicated program.
"We're gonna play some live songs, maybe talk a little about the album, crack some jokes," Murdoc said in a press release. "A kind of ... press junket. You know, doing a tour like this is a little like running for office, campaigning for the listener's vote."
"Demon Days" was produced by Hewlett and Albarn with Danger Mouse. In addition to its Top 10 U.S. debut, the set entered the charts at No. 1 in the U.K., France, Switzerland and Hong Kong, according to Virgin Records.
