311 hooks up with Papa Roach, Unwritten Law for tour

311 will back its forthcoming album, "Don't Tread on Me," with a late-summer road trip that will feature fellow rockers Papa Roach and Unwritten Law .
The triple-bill outing kicks off in early August, and dates so far stretch into mid-September. Also on tap for 311 are some July and August festival appearances and a late-July, two-night stand in Santa Cruz, CA. Details are included below.
The Santa Cruz shows--set for July 27-28, and billed as "An Evening With 311"--follow the July 26 release of "Don't Tread on Me," 311's eighth studio album. The set follows 2003's "Evolver" and last year's best-of collection, "Greatest Hits."
"To me, the meaning of the album title, 'Don't Tread on Me,' is simple," singer/guitarist Nick Hexum said in a statement posted at the band's website. "It's about freedom. Personal freedom. Freedom from any kind of oppression: political, religious, or social.
"I think we had a lot to say on this new album and I'm very happy with the combination of new styles that we've come up with," Hexum added. "Overall, this album is more straight-forward. It's more like what you see at a 311 show: two vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. 'Evolver' had more overdubs and was more influenced by the British heroes of the past. This one is pure America (with a little Jamaican herb!)."
Papa Roach, which is currently touring Europe, released its latest album, "Getting Away with Murder," last fall.
Unwritten Law's most recent set, "Here's to the Mourning," surfaced in February.
