Illness sidelines Lynyrd Skynyrd, but more shows ahead

Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd have mapped out a lengthy summer tour itinerary, but an illness has temporarily waylaid the group's roadtrip.

The band has postponed planned stops in New Jersey and New Hampshire on June 14 and 15, respectively, while singer Johnny Van Zant recovers from "a severe case of strep throat" that he "has been battling for the past month," according to a press release. The illness also forced the band to scrap its scheduled appearance at this week's CMA Music Festival in Nashville.

The New Jersey and New Hampshire shows have been moved to July, and the group's headlining run is expected to resume with a June 17 stop on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The full itinerary is included below.

Skynyrd's most recent studio set is 2003's "Vicious Cycle." The group followed that up with last year's "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve," a double album and companion DVD that features the group's 2003 performance at the Nashville-area's AmSouth Amphitheatre.

Earlier this year, the band's 2003 best-of set, "Thyrty"--which marked the group's 30th anniversary--went platinum, signifying U.S. shipment of 1 million copies. In all, the group's catalog has been certified for sales in excess of more than 26 million albums.
