System of a Down rolls out more shows
The itinerary continues to grow for System of a Down's upcoming North American run behind its chart-topping set "Mezmerize."
New to the group's schedule are stops in Duluth, GA; Hampton, VA; Baltimore; East Rutherford, NJ; Philadelphia; Worcester, MA; and Toronto. On-sale dates for the newly added shows weren't available at press time, but tickets for a number of stops announced earlier this week are scheduled to hit the box office Friday and Saturday (6/17-18). Details are included in the itinerary below.
As previously reported, the tour--which will feature special guests The Mars Volta on all dates--is expected to touch down in about 40 cities over 10 weeks, according to organizers. Bad Acid Trip will open the tour's first leg.
Last month, System of a Down dropped "Mezmerize," the first half of a double album dubbed "Mesmerize/Hypnotize." "Mezmerize" sold about 453,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to score a No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 album chart.
"Mezmerize" features System's latest single, "B.Y.O.B.," an anti-war track that is currently streaming at the group's website.
"Hypnotize," the album's second disc, is set for a late-fall release, according to the group's publicist.
System of a Down--Daron Malakian (guitars, vocals), Serj Tankian (vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums)--recorded the 30 tracks that comprise "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" at co-producer Rick Rubin's Los Angeles studio during the second half of 2004. Malakian split production duties with Rubin, and Andy Wallace mixed the set.
