Trey Anastasio takes his new band for a spin

Former Phish frontman/guitarist Trey Anastasio and his new band, 70 Volt Parade, are set to embark on a tour that will take them to eight cities this summer.

The outing--which Anastasio scheduled after the inaugural Zooma Tour was canceled--opens Aug. 4 in Boston, and wraps up Aug. 13 in the Denver area.

Anastasio and his band will play two sets at each show. Hasidic reggae artist Matisyahu will appear on three Anastasio dates, Gov't Mule supports on one and Sound Tribe Sector 9 supports on one.

Book-ending Anastasio's tour is a July 24 appearance at Minnesota's 10,000 Lakes Festival and an Oct. 6 opening gig for The Rolling Stones in Virginia. Details, including ticket on-sale dates, are below.

Anastasio's new band features Peter Chwazik (bass), Les Hall (keys, guitar, synth), Skeeto Valdez (drums) and Ray Paczkowski (keys).

According to Anastasio's website, he and his new band spent the winter recording at Phish's Vermont studio, The Barn, as well as studios in Nashville and Atlanta. The group continues to work on the set.

The quintet made its public debut April 1 at The Higher Ground club in South Burlington, VT, playing a sold-out benefit show for the Vermont Land Trust. The set included some new material, as well as renditions of songs from Anastasio's previous bands, including Phish.
