Briefly: Eminem, Juan Gabriel, Coheed & Cambria, Justin Timberlake

Rapper and unofficial Detroit booster Eminem will perform one song to open Rockin' the Rooftops, a Wednesday night (6/29) fundraiser to support the city's huge, annual fireworks display.

"The fireworks are a big part of summertime in Detroit, and I want to support them and the Mayor," Eminem said in a statement. "I've come downtown to watch them since I was a kid, and I'll get involved in something that helps the city any way I can."

Organizers expect to sell about 2,000 tickets for the fundraiser, which will take place atop a downtown parking garage just before the fireworks get underway.

The fireworks show, which attracts hundreds of thousands of onlookers each year in Detroit and neighboring Windsor, Ontario, was in danger of being canceled this year due to the City of Detroit's budget shortfalls.

Coheed & Cambria will issue their third album, which carries the unwieldy title of "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Volume 1. From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness," on Sept. 20.

According to a press release, the album is "the first half of the third installment of the band's daringly ambitious prog-rock/sci-fi opus recounting the exploits of young Claudio Kilgannon, who is out to avenge the death of his three siblings and parents (Coheed and Cambria ). The saga began with the band's 2002 debut, 'Second Stage Turbine Blade,' and will eventually end with a prequel, where the fans will find out how it really began."

The band eventually plans to make a film based on the story.

Justin Timberlake is in talks to co-star in the upcoming film "Black Snake Moan," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Christina Ricci and Samuel L. Jackson have already signed on for the film, which will be directed by Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow").

Timberlake would play Ricci's love interest in the film.
