Album Review: Ying Yang Twins, "U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta)" (TVT)

The Ying Yang Twins ' "Wait (The Whisper Song)" is the sexiest jam thus far of 2005.

Sure, this racy romp isn't likely to get many spins at scholarly feminist gatherings--it does meet the absurd quota for ridiculous male bravado and explicit bedroom imagery seemingly required for a summertime hip-hop anthem--but this is not a tune designed to be dissected in the classroom. It's not even one that is meant to be bumped in your ride with the windows down and the system up. This is a grind-it-out-on-the-dance-floor number and, really, one of the best of its ilk to come around in years.

"Wait" is such a good song that it's a true testament to the mighty talents of the Twins (D-Roc and Kaine) that the rest of "U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta)" doesn't pale in comparison. But there's a lot to like on this worthy follow up to the Twins' 2004's platinum-certified "Me & My Brother." If sex sells, then the Twins should continue their million-selling ways thanks to "Pull My Hair" and "Bedroom Boom," two tunes that roll in the same sheets as "Wait."

Following proper hip-hop protocol, the disc features a stretch limo's-worth of guest artists, including Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes. The best guest spot belongs to Anthony Hamilton, who helps the Twins re-imagine Al Green's classic "Belle" into the R&B-and-gospel-flavored "Long Time."
